*****...and the Evolution of the Harvest (aka theory of the Harvest)***** The Harvest: The extraction or procurement of objects/people/opinions...etc from the surrounding environment. Overtime as the environment has changed, so to has the harvest with people adapting into these new environments. If the person/animal derives an advantage from harvesting a particular resource from the environment, then over time their genetics have adapted to make them more effective (more skilled, determined, etc) at procuring that resource. Examples include: At the birth of the Solar System, Gravity harvesting cosmic material (e.g. cosmic dust) to create asteriods, planets, stars, etc. The Herbologist harvesting information about the plants and fungi in the nearby woods, which are useable and which are poisonous. The shop-keeper harvesting money through the sale of consumer products. The miss- onary harvesting people for his big group / religion. People Harvesting: The extraction of people from the environment and their utilization for particular purposes. The manager of a house-building company requires bricklayers to make his houses, so he contacts recruitment agencies who resource the people he needs, this is an example of people harvesting. Education is another discipline that engages in people harvesting (processing), Educational establishments take on students who are then processed to improve their abilities/skills so they are ready for careers in adult life. Religious missionaries were one of the main recruiters, of indigineous people, for the main religious groups (e.g christianity) during the middle ages. Many indigineous groups would be physically forced to take up the rituals of the new religion, while their own religions made illegal. Other types of people harvesting include police removing criminals from the environment, Doctors & hospitals processing ill/injured people, people trafficing of immigrants & sex slaves. Vote / Opinion Harvesting: The harvesting of votes involves the selection of candidates who are then given the oppor- tunity to entice (convince / encourage) people into voting for them. It involves a degree of people harvesting. People usually vote for their favourite person rather than necessarily the one most skilled / competent at the activity. May involve the candidate going door-to-door canvassing themselves, their group or their particular message to increase the number of votes they receive. The person canvassing also commonly attempts to point out the negatives of the opposing candidates in an attempt to decrease their vote harvest. In terms of opinion harvesting companies and organisations can use telesales (cold-calling) to sell products, harvest information about people's interests, etc. 38degrees is one such organization that engages in this type of harvest. A person doing a survey on people's oral health is another example. This involves a degree of knowledge harvesting. Knowledge Harvesting: The extraction of knowledge from the environment (or about the environment). Charles Dar- win's 'Voyage of the Beagle' and 'On the origin of Species' are classic examples of knowledge harvesting. Knowledge harvesting is a vast discipline and can be split into different categories, such as harvesting information about the natural world (science) and the animals / plants contained within it. Social chit-chat and the harvesting of information from people about topics of interests, news, events, their wellbeing (doctors) , etc. Topic Specific Knowledge Harvests such as an apprentice learning the skills of the trade he is currently persuing. Other examples are: Students enrolling on courses to educate themselves in a particular topic, data harvesting of peoples details on websites such as facebook, learning languages, etc. Visual Vs Verbal Harvesting: Visual harvests involve the gathering of visual information from the environment. The main organ for obtaining visual information is the eye, eyes absorb photons which supply details about the surrounding environment to the human (or animal) brain. Visual learning styles usually involve absorption of knowledge through the art of practical experimentation & practical exercises, which help with memorizing visual information. For example, using an abacus in maths can help a student who requires visual memorizing techniques. Examples of visual harvests include: The Hubble Space Telescope harvesting visual information from far flung reaches of the cosmos. Exploring a medieval castle, a sunken shipwreck and/or the memorizing of plants in the local woods. Doing a wood-working cou- rse and memorizing the different techniques used in wood craft. Verbal (auditory) harvests involves the memorizing of the spoken word. The spoken word is also commonly put to paper in the form of books, magazines and other written sources. In terms of learning, verbal knowledge is memorized through the reading and reciting of passages in books or by listening to a speaker or audio recording. Examples include A lecturer giving a talk on a particular topic to a class of students. Watching TV presenters on TV talking about parti- cular topics included in the program. Mobile Vs Stationary Harvests: Money Harvests: Capitalism and the Entrepreneurial world. He who harvests the most money is the wealthiest person or Greediest Person. In primative times people who grew crops would have a big harvest at the end of each growing season, with these crops being gathered into the local graneries. The size of the harvest would be relative to the size of the group, from a small tribe to a vast Kingdom. In the modern age with people working for companies and businesses this food harvest has been replaced with the money harvest, with companies commonly having whats know as an annual report. This report states the extent of the financial harvest the company has made, including turnover and profits. Busi- ness owners and shopkeepers commonly harvest money (make profits) through the sale of consumer items, the customer procures the item(s) in exchange for the relinquishing of money. The National Lottery involves millions of people putting coins in and a single person winning the rather large amount that accumulates. Most charities operate because of the money they receive through donations, events, etc. Illegal money harvests include fraud, embezzling of money and stealing old people's pensions and life savings. Ore Harvests: The extraction of minerals and other geological materials from the natural environment. Ore is usually harvested using mining techniques such as dredging, surface mining and underground mining. Examples of underground mining include: strip mining & open pit mining; examples of underground mining include Room/pillar mining, shaft mining & slope mining. of ore Product Harvesting Thrill Harvesting: Thrill seekers harvesting thrills from the environment. Birdsuits, evil kinevil, stuntmen, etc Territory Harvesting: The Roman Empire, the United Kingdom and the.....European Union. "New Technology" Harvesting: Flesh Harvesting: The preditor (carnivore/omnivore/insectivore) harvesting the flesh of the prey (herbivore /omnivore/insectivore). Preditors first appeared during the cambrian explosion. ****The Cultivator and the harvesting of the plot **** The Plot: If you suppose that there is a cabbage farmer who has a plot of land for growing cabbages, when it comes toharvesting that plot there are things (s)he wants to harvest "the cabbages" and things (s)he does not want to harvest such as weeds & caterpillars. I'll call the things (s)he wants to harvest "The positive harvest" and things (s)he does not want to harvest "The negative harvest". There are also things (s)he does not care about (both positive & negative, so ignores their potential and does not harvest them; "The non harvest". If the farmer does not prune his cabbages of caterpillars then at the seasons end (s)he will have a weak positive harvest (e.g. very few cabbages) and a strong negative harvest (e.g. lots of caterpillars). Starvation and famine ensue. As the cabbage farm increases in size the farmer will have to increase the positive harvest by expanding the plot (territory harvests) and taking ownership of surrounding land so (s)he can feed the people. This will ultimately increase the potential of the negative harvest through increased competit- ors and more crops to prune. The competitors (potentially other homosapiens) may see the 'cabbage eating farmers' as a negative harvest, that could damage their positive harvest. They might ultimately have to turn to war to save their plot. The human body has 5 senses it can utilize for obtaining information about the surrounding environment; these are sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. The information these senses obtain is continually being absorbed by the sensory organs and directed to the brain, where the persons conscience (or sub-conscience) decides what to do with it. If information is harvested that is considered either good or bad (e.g. a football team winning a game or someone saying something rasist) the person's conscience will initiate whatever it considers is an appropriate response. The response being dependent on the person's opinions (genetic make-up). As people have evolved in different directions (Divergent evolution) chasing different harvests, what a person considers good or bad will differ between each harvest type (niche*). In terms of emoti- onal responses, if the information is good (positive) this would presumably illicit positive emotional responses (such as happiness, joy, contentment, love, etc.), if it is bad (negative) this would illicit negative emotions (such as anger, anxiety, depression, aggression, etc). As non harvests aren't focused on or noticed they presumably won't illicit an emotional response at all. In terms of friends and foes, a person (or animal) who has a positive harvest that directly overlaps (or opposes) another person's (or animal's) negative harvest will be ultimate foes (enemies). An example is that of Flies, which subsists on a diet of other animals faeces, and homosapiens who don't. Flies don't contemplate catching diseases off faeces, while homosapiens, who consider the stuff to be vile and disgusting, commonly buy fly-spray to exterminate them. Other har- vest combinations may lead to less hostile relationships or even close relationships. For example: people who all have the same positive harvests (or negative harvests) naturally get along with each other, as like-minded people are often found doing similar jobs or persuing similar hobbies. Although there may be competitive rivalry between individuals who see each other as a potential threat. The People Plot: If a people harvester, normally belonging to a group of some kind (Christianity, Veganism, etc), wishes to harvest from a particular people plot (such as a tribe or city), the positive harvest will be all the people that join that group (either voluntary or through force), while the negative harvest will be all the people who either are not interested in joining the group or who have joined opposing people harvesting groups. In terms of religions all the culti- vator (Missionary) is interested in is the number of people joining the group and that they get processed (pruned) in the ways of the religion such as belief in god, religious laws, etc. The person's capacity as a person is a non-harvest, their skills, abilities, health and background is of limited interest, even the worst criminals can repent and be excepted by god. Vegans are similar, in that they are not particular about the persons capabilities as a person, but it is an absolute must that they denounce eating meat & diary products and any utilization of animals. Warfare also includes people harvesting as the particular kingdom (e.g. The Saxon's or Normans) requires warriors to fight in it's battles. The cultivator in this case is very much interested in the skills and abilities of the particular individual, as a fearless, fit & agile person who has excellent weapons skills will be an ideal candidate, while an ill, incompetant person who flees readily from danger will be a terrible candidate. The person's alligence to the kingdom, and hatred for the enemy and general decisiveness will also be rather important as the cultivator will not want solders who change sides mid-battle. The warriors vices (rapeing & pillaging), interests or activities outside of warfare may not be of particular concern or interest. The positive harvest in terms of warfare will be the victory in battle and all that comes with victory, while the negative harvest will be losing the battle. In the middle ages victory of the battle (e.g. 1066 Hastings) led to the harvesting of territory (ownership of land) and the growth of the kingdom. In terms of Truth and knowledge when the people harvester is trying to recruit someone, telling the absolute truth might not be beneficial In terms of the modern world groups can take many different forms including black/white groups, vegan vs meat-eating groups, motor vehicle vs cyclist groups, different religious groups, rival companies taking each others staff, etc. Ancient Monuments and the Islamic State Plot: Positive Harvest: The nurturing, promotion and expansion of the islamic state and its laws / way of life. Negative harvest: Anything on the landscape that does not align with the islamic states doctrines, contradicts Islam or casts doubt on its legitimately. The destruction of ancient monuments has been reported widely in the press, and as these represent past civilisations (e.g. The Babylonian Empire) long before Islam apeared, they may cast doubt (in some peoples minds) on whether islam is true or something that has been manufactured. The fact that these past civilations worshipped different gods, to the one-god of islam, and that there is no evidence of Islam being practiced clearly casts doubt on islam as a genuine, totally true, religion. So in terms of the Islamic state plot the knowledge of ancient civilations and their monuments are the weeds reducing the potential for Islam to be taken seriously / grow. The crafts: Wood-, stone-, metal-working plot: Positive harvest: Any rather well made items which have been expertly crafted to a high degree of accuracy & precision by someone who prides themselves with their attention to detail. Negative Harvest: any mistakes, boo-boos, errors, etc; especially ones that result in the person having to start again or cause serious delay to finishing the project. "...having fingers sewn back on..." Non-Harvest: Anything outside "The Shed" such as a personal life, friends (apart from the wood-chisels), |
